About BuildCalcs UK

Practical calculations you can check

BuildCalcs UK provides free building and DIY estimating tools, worked examples and reference guides designed around transparent calculations.

Why BuildCalcs exists

Building-material estimates often combine simple geometry with assumptions that are easy to overlook: millimetres must become metres, openings change net area, whole units need rounding, and supplier coverage can differ from a generic estimate. BuildCalcs brings those steps together while keeping the reasoning visible.

Who operates the site

BuildCalcs UK is operated and maintained by Airborne Media & Consultancy Ltd, a private limited company registered in England and Wales (company number 17415868). The site is a publishing and software product; we do not claim to be a building contractor, structural engineer or building-control body.

How content is produced

Calculator pages and guides are developed around the underlying arithmetic, worked examples and the practical information needed to use the result. We use software tools to assist development and editorial production, but published calculations and examples are intended to be internally checked against the stated formulas. We do not invent professional qualifications or present variable product data as universal fact.

Our editorial standard

A page should do more than target a search phrase. It should help a reader calculate, verify or understand a real quantity. That is why our guides include formulas, tables, worked examples, limitations and links to the relevant interactive tools.

Corrections and feedback

Accuracy matters. If you spot an error, use the contact page and include the page, inputs and expected result where possible. We can then reproduce and investigate the issue.

Use of estimates

BuildCalcs results are planning estimates. Always verify dimensions, material specifications, supplier quantities and project requirements before purchasing materials or starting work. For safety-critical, structural or regulatory decisions, use appropriately qualified advice.
