How the plasterboard calculation works

The calculator divides the total wall area by the area of one plasterboard sheet, then adds your chosen waste allowance and rounds up to a whole sheet.

Typical plasterboard sizes

Common UK sheet sizes include 2400 × 1200 mm, 2700 × 1200 mm and 3000 × 1200 mm. Check the exact size and thickness required for your project before buying.

This is a quantity estimate, not structural or fire-safety advice. Specialist boards, fire ratings, moisture resistance and fixing requirements vary by application.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include waste?

Yes. A small waste allowance helps cover cuts, damaged edges and awkward layouts. Complex rooms may need more.

Does this include ceilings?

No. Calculate a ceiling separately using its length and width as the boardable area.
