How the fence calculation works
The calculator divides the total run by the nominal panel width and rounds up. A simple straight run normally needs one more post than the number of panel bays.
Planning the final bay
If the fence length is not an exact multiple of the panel width, the final bay may need a cut panel or a narrower custom section.

Frequently asked questions
Are 6 ft fence panels exactly 6 ft wide?
Many are sold at approximately 1.83 m wide, but check the actual manufacturer's dimensions before setting posts.
Does the result include gate posts?
No. Gates often require different posts and spacing, so calculate the gate opening separately.
